May is National BBQ Month. There are so many techniques- smoking, roasting, braising, grilling- just to name a few. Barbecuing can be a great way to kick off the summer, especially since so much of the cooking is done outdoors.
How to Celebrate:
- Get takeout from a local barbecue place. Our favorites are Midwood Smokehouse and Noble Smoke.
- Have a grilling/smoking/roasting party. Try a new way to cook meat.
- Invent a new barbecue sauce. Add flavors and seasonings. Have a taste test.
- Host a barbecue sauce tasting party. Buy a variety of flavors and let everyone sample. Vote on favorites and then mix and match.
When cooking, it’s important to be mindful of safety. Know how to use your equipment, keep control of the fire, and clean grease as needed. Make sure the grill is placed in a safe spot and pay attention to smoke. It’s also super important to follow food safety rules with temperature checks on meats and side dishes.
Finally- when spending time outdoors this summer, always remember to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and find shade. We hope you enjoy your Memorial Weekend and have fun cooking outside!
