Every candidate begins by submitting an application and updated resumé.

2. Submit Relevant Documents

Candidates provide all required documentation to move forward in the process.

3. Initial Pre-Screening Call

We conduct a brief phone interview to ensure the candidate meets our agency’s standards and the unique needs of our clients.

4. In-Depth Interview

Qualified candidates are invited to a comprehensive one-on-one interview with a placement specialist. This helps us get to know each candidate’s personality, background, and skill set. (We look for a minimum of 3 years of experience in the industry.)

5. Custom Candidate Profile

We create a personalized profile for each candidate to highlight their qualifications and strengths.

6. Professional Reference Checks

Our in-house team conducts detailed reference checks and prepares a full reference report. Once a family expresses interest in hiring a candidate, they receive this report and are encouraged to connect directly with the candidate’s references.

7. Family Interviews

Candidates participate in virtual and/or in-person interviews with families who are interested in hiring them.

8. Certification Requirements

All candidates must be certified in CPR and First Aid before beginning a position. Many have advanced medical training, such as CNA, RN, EMT, or even retired MD credentials. We provide the candidate’s info on recertification if needed.

9. Transportation & Driving Verification

Reliable, safe transportation is required. We verify each candidate’s driver’s license and driving record during the background check process.

10. Comprehensive Background Check

We run a comprehensive national background check as close to hiring as possible to ensure the most up-to-date results.

This includes:

• Civil records
• Social Security verification
• National & state driving record checks
• Sex offender registry search
• Security watchlist screening

Optional drug and alcohol screening is available for an additional fee.

Typical light household duties include washing the children’s laundry and changing their sheets weekly; prepping the children’s food and feeding the children; washing or putting away dishes; sanitizing bottles, toys, and surfaces; stocking diapers and other items; and emptying the diaper pail as needed.

We require all families to pay legally by W-2 payment in accordance with the domestic payment laws of the country. 1099’s are illegal in the industry. Also, nannies and domestic employees must be paid time and a half for any hours worked over 40 hours in one work week (please calculate the hourly rate accordingly). For your convenience, we have partnered with GTM Payroll & HR a nanny and domestic payroll company, to help you facilitate paying your nanny and domestic employee legally. This will ensure all parties are tax compliant. *Please note that we do not provide tax or legal advice. Please reach out to a payroll service, your accountant, or an attorney to go over tax compliance.*

All Nannies and Household Staff we place look for the following benefits: two weeks of paid time off, 3 paid sick days, paid major holidays, continued pay while the family is away, and paid mileage (Driving on the job, not to and from work) or vehicle to drive on the job, and an annual performance-based bonus. Health stipend or benefits and a 401 k are optional benefits, but a plus if you can offer either of those benefits as well.

Candidates Work Directly for The Family

When a family hires a candidate, the family is always the direct employer of the candidate hired. Charlotte’s Best Nanny Agency never employs nannies or household candidates at any time; we are solely a placement agency. Nannies and household candidates we place are required to be paid legally by the family, via W-2 payment. According to the domestic payment laws in the country, 1099s are illegal. The family is responsible for overseeing day to day employment, paying their employee legally, and paying all applicable taxes.

Continued Support

While we do not employee nannies or domestic candidates at any point, we do offer continued support. We are always available to provide support and guidance, as needed. This continued support is offered to all clients and candidates throughout the placement process and throughout the placement, whether the placement lasts one year, or 12 years.
