This Saturday, March 14th, is Pi Day. This is a day to celebrate the magic of numbers, especially the famous number Pi (3.14), which helps us measure circles. Just like a circle goes around and around, Pi goes on forever.
If you’re teaching your nanny kids about Pi Day, keep it simple and hands-on:
Easy Ways to Teach Pi to Young Children:
- Talk About Circles: Go on a “circle hunt” and find round objects, plates, clocks, wheels, and cookies.
- Measure Together: Use a string to wrap around a circular object, then stretch it out and compare it to the width across the circle. (You don’t need to explain the math deeply — just show that circles have special patterns!)
- Read & Bake (with adult supervision): Make mini pies or round cookies together and talk about how today is “Pi Day” because it sounds like “pie.”
- Create Art: Have children paint or draw circles in different sizes and colors.
For little ones, Pi Day is less about memorizing numbers and more about sparking curiosity.
Doing fun activities with your nanny kids or kids related to Pi day is a great way to introduce new math concepts to children. We hope you are able to do one or more of these activities with your nanny kids to teach this neat math concept.
