Florence Disaster Relief: NC and SC Diaper Banks

Over the past few days, Hurricane Florence brought destruction to eastern NC and SC and parts of the Charlotte area. At Charlotte’s Best Nanny Agency supporting our community is one of our number one priorities. As we thought about what we could do to give back to Hurricane Florence victims, we thought about all the families and children that have lost everything, even basic necessities like diapers. We wanted to focus our relief efforts on helping the most vulnerable victims of the hurricane babies and children by supporting the NC and SC Diaper Banks. We will be making a donation to each diaper bank, and ask that you join us in this effort, by donating what you can to either diaper bank. Donating to either bank will greatly help the most vulnerable victims of Hurricane Florence. You can donate via several different ways.

  1. Donate money directly to the NC or SC Diaper Banks at one of the links below: NC Diaper Bank: https://ncdiaperbank.networkforgood.com/projects/58385-donate-today-change-today-change-a-life SC Diaper Bank:https://scdiaperbank.networkforgood.com
  2. Drop off or mail diapers, wipes, and sanitary pads to the NC Diaper Bank headquarters (1311 East Club Blvd. Durham NC 27704.)
  3. Volunteer to prepare disaster relief kits of personal hygiene items.
  4. Spread the word through social media

When natural disasters strike, our mission to distribute dignity by providing basic hygiene needs becomes even more critical. A single storm can displace thousands of families, separating them from their communities and resources. Many must evacuate quickly, lacking time or space to pack personal care items such as diapers, feminine hygiene products, and adult incontinence supplies. Those already vulnerable, such as those living with poverty, families with young children, and the elderly, are particularly at risk.

Disaster relief organizations provide vital goods and services to those in need. However, there are no agencies that provide diapers. As the only statewide diaper bank in North Carolina, DBNC partners with state emergency services to fill this gap. Previously, DBNC has responded to Hurricane Matthew and the 2018 Greensboro tornado with shipments of personal hygiene supplies. As Hurricane Florence approaches the coast, we are preparing to answer the need again. In this coming week, and during the months of rebuilding and resettling ahead, DBNC will continue our work to bring dignity and comfort to families across North Carolina.

The SC Diaper Bank (SCDB) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization that provides diapers to families need for diapers.  The goal of the SC Diaper Bank is to assist parents in raising healthy children during times of need through early intervention, education, and material support.

We will raise our community’s awareness of the “diaper need,” host diaper and clothing drives, buy diapers and ointment at a highly discounted rate, provide volunteer support for sorting, packing, and distributing diapers, and storage of diapers.
