This weekend we had the pleasure of visiting one of our local pick your own farms in the area, Carrigan Farms in Mooresville NC. This farm is a great place for families and nannies to take their children to where they can learn about farms and how our food grows. Carrigan Farms has provided a pick your own vegetable and fruit farm for many children to visit over the years. This farm sees thousands of children per year and provides an educational experience for all children and family who visit the farm. They offer (when in season) pick your own fruits and vegetables year around. The fruits and veggies you can pick include: Apples, Pumpkins, Strawberries, and Asparagus (Yes, I said Asparagus!) To see what is currently in-season visit Crops In Season
At Carrigan Farms you will be taken on a Hayride to see the animals at their petting zoo. They have a donkey, pigs, sheep, rabbits, a ram and other various animals. The kids will love getting to see and pet some of the animals, just be careful to sanitize and wash everyone’s hands after touching animals. Then you will be taken via hayride to whichever pick your own area that is in season and you will be able to pick your own Apples, Pumpkins, Strawberries, and Asparagus dependent on what time of year you come to Carrigan Farms. This past weekend the Apples were in season, so we picked Apples. Pretty soon the pumpkin patch will open and Pumpkins will be ready to be picked for your Jack-o-Lanterns. After you are finished picking your harvest, the hayride will take you back to the main area and you will be given a cup of Carrigan Farms famous fresh Apple Cider.
